My friend Alex who taught me to slow down

I have a very, very special customer, who has become very dear to us here at Pegeen.

She has such a warm and creative personality and holds a special place in my heart. Alexandra Caitlin Hubbard, who likes to be called Alex, asked me to make her a special dress that was wide enough to cover her chair and wanted to wear it to see The Nutcracker.

This is the post I wrote about my friend: Since then, Alex has been attending college, has dreams of becoming a pediatric nurse or doctor, or to help others like so many have helped her. She also loves it when you read her blog posts and I try to answer her writings (she is quite good describing what it is like to be in her shoes.)

Alex changed my life. She once sent me a video where the male lead from The Nutcracker picked her up and danced with her so she could feel what it was like to dance. I cherish that video to this day.

When she got her dress, she describes the blue as the most beautiful color of the sky. Last night I was excited as she to have the package arrive at her door and have someone help her get into her dress so she could send me this photograph.

Then, I started to read her blog. It is the most remarkable insight into what it is like to live in her world and describes the friends she meets along the way. I am sure that you would love to read her Facebook posts the way I did. Keep up your writing Raina/Alex! All of us loved seeing you in your dress! I wish I could write such wonderful stories as you!! Have fun seeing The Nutcracker on Saturday!

What could be better than Princess Dresses No Matter the Age

Having our office so close to Disney means it’s hard NOT to be inspired dressing the little ones! Next week, our grand daughter will be coming back for a visit to see us as their parents, my son and wife, go to witness the wedding of another set of Disney employees who met – just like they did – at Disney.  It will be during this trip that I hope to remind them that living 3000 miles away is NOT as much fun as living close by.

And of course, that means my little munchkin will wear our Cinderella inspired flower girl dress for the day because EVERY little girl should be wearing Swarovski Crystals. I will likely lose that point but at least I can dress Holly in her newest dress, a Cinderella Dress.  It is going to be hysterical because she is now walking so having our little munchkin walking around in her Disney princess dress made by my company will make me so, so proud beyond measure.

Will post soon!!

We recently made one for a very special and beautiful little munchkin who is “differently abled” and had it ready for pick up the same day. We do this often for these Special Needs angels who really steal our hearts. Disney merchandise doesn’t accommodate these special children (however, they are allowed to wear costumes even at older ages). We believe that even a girl who is Special Needs in her mid-thirties or a plus size little girl should still get to wear her favorite princess dress… and been doing so for transplant girls too who, because of steroids, tend to blow up, as well as various other children with special circumstances.

This was before we added her crinoline and cameo and of course, pixie dust. Her mom used a term I never heard before, Differently Abled….. I just can’t wait to see her in her dress. If you have questions, or need help to make your Princess’s day, contact us!  Please call for appointments.

Fairytale Dresses for Your Little Princess

We developed a line of Infant and Toddler Flower Girl Dresses that come from our love of Disney. We are so lucky that we get to visit the parks at least once a week and get to bring our grand daughter too!  Made in silk and tulle and plenty of pixie dust.

The Inauguration and Fashion

Today we witnessed the pageantry of the Inauguration where the very best of our unique American Republic was on display. The peaceful transition of power we witness with every new administration with all three branches of government and both political parties participating is exciting to see. We are also excited to see the fashion choices of the First Ladies and former First ladies and their children over the years. Of course, we notice the children, such as the Trump grandchildren who looked adorable this time, and the Obama sisters last time and Amy Carter back in 1976.

But the First Ladies are the real stars. John F. Kennedy once said “Two years ago, I introduced myself in Paris by saying that I was the man who had accompanied Mrs. Kennedy to Paris. I am getting somewhat that same sensation as I travel around Texas. Nobody wonders what Lyndon and I wear. “Everyone talked about what Jackie wore. The most fashionable of all First Ladies, Jackie Kennedy wore a cloth coat when almost all the women around her were in fur coats, standard for ladies at the time. The contrast made her stand out even more than she usually did. She remains the standard bearer for White House fashion. First Ladies in modern times have used American designers for Inauguration Day activities, which are a celebration of America.  Mrs. Obama used J Crew for the girls and chose Jason Wu, a US based label, for herself.  We always admired the fact the Royal Family, particularly the Queen and Princess Kate use British designers almost exclusively and are certain that this will be the rule with our new First Lady.

Melania Trump looked stunning during the day in a sky-blue outfit designed by Ralph Lauren. She may be the only First Lady before or since to come anywhere close to the fashion icon status enjoyed by Jackie Kennedy, although we think she will never be eclipsed. Melania struck an equally outstanding figure in her gorgeous evening gown for the Inauguration Balls. High fashion on a day of high pageantry.  At the Inaugural ball, Mrs. Trump wore a gown by Herve Pierre who was a former designer and creative director for companies like Vera Wang and most recently, Carolina Herrera.  We are looking forward to seeing what designers she uses in the future and with luck, is there a future White House Wedding?  (Hello, Tiffany Trump, you and my son both attended the University of Pennsylvania, President Trump’s and Pop Pop Hyland’s alma-mater (both Wharton) as well.  Pegeen Flower girls look great at a wedding!)

Our New Cinderella Style Dress Made This First Communicant Very Happy!

Our customer is using our Glass Slipper Fairy from the Fairytale Collection by Pegeen.com for her communion dress, Cinderella look Flower Girl Dress, Pegeen Style 914. She was SO excited to open and see her dress that here is her happy princess look right out of the box.

“Dear Pegeen, thank you for the heavenly dress you sent for my daughter. When she opened the box, her eyes got as big as saucers. I hope I can get her out of it before she goes to sleep. She is wearing this for her First Communion Dress and her Cinderella Birthday party next week! I will send good photographs but you had to see the look on her face which I captured on my phone.”

Cinderella Dresses Are Here!

We suppose it is very fitting to announce the addition two new flower girl dresses to the Pegeen Fairytale Collection on our Fairytales and Weddings blog!  We are really excited to see the new Disney Cinderella movie releasing in March 2015.

The first of the two styles is fashioned after traditional blue Cinderella colors – we call it the Blue Quartz Fairy, made of silk, and it’s available in any of the 200 colors of silk.  In fact, we already have an order pending for a First Communion Dress!

The second dress has some beautiful iridescent organza and multiple layers of tulle. This combination is turquoise though it can be customized to be in any color way. The style is Pegeen Style 912 called The Aura Fairy after the gorgeous rainbow quartz of the same name, and of course, Cinderella. It too includes butterflies in the shawl collar as well as a Cinderella Bow.912 Aura Fairy Dress form the Pegeen Fairy Tale Collection

Homage to Ombre – starting with an Ombre Tulle Flower Girl Dress

A few posts ago, Ie highlighted a new flower girl dress with Ombre Tulle layers – the girls at the studio had fun, making these layers of tulle for that dress that had had miles and miles of tulle – so to continue this theme, I became obsessed and searched as I kept coming across some magnificent items to use for your Ombre Wedding. I admit, I got totally distracted finding these pretty things!

First, I looked for bridesmaids dresses to compliment our flower girl dress and the next thing I knew, there was a wedding gown by Lazaro I found that was so beautiful… and of course in my favorite color, Tiffany blue.  There were all kinds of turquoise ombre cakes (my favorite below) and a Herve Leger which would be perfect for my niece’s wedding.Going along with that aqua theme, before I knew it, I found a really neat distressed dresser, of course the stairs I still plan to do, even a stair railing! I GOT TO STOP!!!  Worse that anything, a new distraction, from ChicaAndJo.com – directions on how to make an ombre aqua keyboard.  TRUE heaven.  I’m in so much trouble.

Getting ready for two weddings in our family….. weird, I don’t feel that old.

Somehow, I don’t remember getting older.  It definitely feels like not too long ago that my husband and I were planning our wedding…. or so should I say my mother was.  In the 1980’s you pretty much left the work to your mother.  So it was for me as well.  I was busy building my business and really, things were left for the most part in her hands but that is another story.

My niece Joan, getting married this Saturday, is really the reason I got into children’s wear in the first place.  After an injury in dance, my oldest sister started hawking my goods, encouraging me along the way.  As a matter of fact, the reason I got into children’s bridal wear some 4 years after starting Pegeen was because at the time I could not find any children’s clothing that I was in love with for my wedding.  Hard to believe that 29 years ago, I created my first flower girl dress for my niece Joan, using some antique laces I had accumulated and some gorgeous silk I had in my possession for 10 years for my niece’s flower girl dress.  (I also had a cousin in the wedding wearing a ring bearer suit, again from Pegeen).  Luckily for me, WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) picked up the wedding and I was off to a great start for our bridal collection.  My point too is that it is hard to believe that my flower girl, now a doctor, is getting married.  I have had many customers who do call me and say, “Hi Pegeen! When I was little, I was a flower girl and now I need to have you make a flower girl dress for my wedding”, or even stranger to hear, for her daughter.  When did I get so old?  I don’t feel that way.

Since that time, Pegeen offers 200 colors and a boat load of styles and includes the new dress we designed for my nephew’s wedding being held next month. Below here is that dress for the children in Daniel’s and Jeanie’s wedding and I must say, times have changed!  For example this dress, filled with tons of Swarovski Crystals on the front and back and on the skirt,  what is a flower girl dress without tons and tons of tulle, silk and crystals? In the 80’s when I began my first flower girl dress collection, the choice was white or ivory and I was having none of that.  Dresses were shorter and God forbid, too fluffy. Now, the bigger the better (well, we still have some fairly conservative, classic styles on our original collection).  At Pegeen we still say “Anything but a white dress”.

I will be very proud to see Daniel and Jeanie’s children going down the aisle in our flower girl dress style 904, “Topaz” from the Fairytale Collection!  More photos coming!
